ENRICHING CUSTOMER SERVICE VIA AWARD-WINNING COMMUNICATIONS

Meralco wins Philippines’ first gold in issues management
and first silver for CSR at PRWeek Asia Awards

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) wins the Philippines’ first gold award as the crisis or issues management campaign of the year and the country’s first silver as the corporate social responsibility campaign of the year in PRWeek Awards 2016 - Asia’s prestigious awards program celebrating the most creative and effective public relations campaigns.

Meralco bagged the Philippines’ lone gold winner for its communication efforts during the summer supply crisis threat of 2015. The silver trophy was presented for Meralco’s “salba-bote” campaign. Meralco bested nominated entries from Asia Pacific countries including Japan, Australia, India, Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Last year’s summer power supply crisis threat proved to be a rewarding challenge for Meralco as the power distribution utility sought ways to mitigate the supply deficiency, and at the same time empower various stakeholders with multi-platform solutions. Meralco was able to turn around a crisis scenario via bringing forward innovative demand-side management solutions, harnessing collaboration and institutionalizing energy efficiency, thus earning the company, and the country, the first gold trophy for issues management in the regional awards program.

Panlilio speaks at a forum aimed to educate implementers of the mechanics of the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) - one of the key initiatives of Department of Energy and Meralco to help mitigate power supply deficiency threat last year.

Meralco also got a silver for “salba-bote”, the company-developed safety device used to protect lives during typhoons and floods. “Salba-bote” is an improvised flotation device (IFD) made of readily available materials making it easy to replicate and distribute to customers in flood-prone areas. “Salba-bote” serves as a multi-functional rescue gear and survival kit, made up of empty recyclable softdrink bottles inside a plastic-coated mesh bag with water-resistant pocket for emergency supplies. Salba-bote is the only IFD publicly endorsed by the Philippine Red Cross and the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary to be used during rescue operations.

Salba-bote is an IFD made up of readily available materials making it easy to replicate and distribute. It is manufactured in two sizes: for adults and children. Salbabote is a product of collaboration among Meralco partners Pepsi Cola Philippines, Glad and DDB Philippines.

Alfredo Panlilio, Meralco Senior Vice President & Head of Customer Retail Services & Corporate Communications, believes that the awards are manifestations of the company’s endeavor to provide customers with outstanding communication service & initiatives. Panlilio said, “Our communication efforts last summer was centered on empowering customers with solutions and allowing for tight collaboration, while salba-bote is a product of innovative thinking and concern for the safety of our customers. Winning accolades for both underlines the importance for companies, especially for utilities like Meralco, to go above and beyond the call of service, and create initiatives that drive real change with an impact on nation-building.”

Panlilio adds, “This is a shared achievement, not just for Meralco but for the nation as well. It shows that the Philippines is at par with the best campaigns in the Asian communications industry.”

LG ushers in new age of laundry with world’s first TWIN WashTM

Revolutionary main washer and mini-washer system
tailor-fits washing performance to each garment’s needs

MANILA, June 29, 2016 – Global technology innovator LG Electronics brings to the Philippine market a breakthrough washing machine that redefines the concept of laundry. The world’s first LG TWIN WashTM enables two separate loads to be washed simultaneously by combining a full-sized front loading washing machine with a mini-washer in a hide-away pedestal, generating a whole new set of washing options.

Gentle washing for all types of laundry
The safety of one’s clothes is one of the most important factors to consider in purchasing a washing machine. LG TWIN WashTM is designed to be able to give special treatment to different types of laundry with its two-in-one system. The powerful main washer handles the larger garments, while the mini-washer is perfect for specialized items that require a unique wash setting like lingerie or baby clothes.

The mini-washer is big enough to hold a full load of delicates yet small enough to use just the right amount of water and electricity, which is normally an issue with bigger washers. This feature offers wash modes specifically for delicate items, guaranteed to clean these types of clothes as gently and thoroughly as hand washing.

Due to the dual washing system, washing time is significantly cut down as multiple loads of laundry can now be handled simultaneously. Smaller loads can be washed when needed without having to wait until a full wash load has accumulated, saving users time and adding a new dimension of convenience.

Premium ergonomic design
LG TWIN Wash™ is designed to fit in the space of a typical front loading washing machine so nothing is sacrificed for the added convenience. The door of the main washer is aligned with the drum’s center, positioned higher than on conventional models and tilted at an angle to make loading and unloading the main drum easier. The mini-washer and pedestal housing can be purchased separately to give current owners of LG front loading washing machines all the benefits of the TWIN WashTM at a fraction of the cost. LG TWIN Wash™, available in modern stainless, received the Red Dot Design Award and the IDEA (International Design Excellence Award) in 2015.

Advanced technology for clothes
TWIN Wash™ also features LG’s unique TurboWash™ 2.0 technology. Nozzles positioned inside the drum of the main washer spray a concentrated solution of detergent directly onto the clothes, improving the unit’s cleaning performance. Another high pressure nozzle sprays tiny water particles through the clothes during high spin cycles for more effective rinsing. The revolutionary Inverter Direct Drive motor at the heart of the TWINWash™ is attached directly to the drum, improving efficiency and reducing the number of moving parts, leading to enhanced durability.

“LG TWIN Wash™ is designed to not only make laundry duties quicker and more convenient at home, but also ensure that each and every garment is given the special care it deserves,” LG Philippines Home Appliance VP Youngmin Chae said. “Moms, household helpers or independent young adults now have more time to attend to other chores with the ease of knowing that their laundry will come out spotless from gentle and thorough washing. The simple yet innovative concept of the TWIN WashTM has propelled LG to the front of the pack in the washing machine segment, and is another leap forward in our commitment to make life better for our Filipino consumers.”

Holcim Philippines employees nationwide, including this group from its plant in Lugait Misamis Oriental, joined the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela for the fourth-straight year to help schools in their communities get ready for the start of classes in 2016.

Volunteers from construction solution company Holcim Philippines, Inc. went back to school to help local communities prepare public elementary and secondary schools for the start of classes this year under the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela initiative.

Sustaining its support to this activity for the fourth-straight year, Holcim Philippines donated school equipment and building materials, while its people again trooped to local schools to lend a hand in getting these ready for the year ahead.

During the weekends of May and June, Holcim Philippines employees in La Union, Bulacan, Taguig, Batangas, Misamis Oriental and colleagues from affiliate LafargeHolcim Aggregates, Inc. in Rizal helped clean and paint facilities, repair chairs and tend gardens in various schools. It also conducted safety orientations for other volunteers as part of its efforts to spread the company’s safety advocacy.

Holcim Philippines donated 5,000 bags of cement to 22 public schools in the cities of Davao and Panabo for building perimeter fences, concreting of path walks and landscaping. The company also gave books and chairs to other schools in its communities.

The company continues to be committed to supporting the Brigada Eskwela.

LG OLED TV to bring Northern Lights to Iceland this season

MANILAJune 21, 2016 – Global technology innovator LG Electronics is kicking off a campaign to make the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, visible to audiences around the globe in the most unique way—via its cutting-edge HDR-enabled 4K OLED TVs. LG will showcase the OLED Aurora Borealis at the Lights Out, Stars On concert on July 20, 2016 in Reykjavik, Iceland, featuring hometown band Of Monsters and Men. This will be followed by a four-month photo exhibition portraying the beauty of Iceland on LG OLED TVs.

The Northern Lights cannot be observed in Iceland from April to August due to the midnight sun which keeps the country lit almost 24 hours a day. To give summer tourists and residents their first opportunity to view the Aurora Borealis during the summer months, LG has invited nearly one thousand guests to the highly-anticipated concert. For one night only at the award-winning Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, its glass panels resembling the elegant Picture-on-Glass of the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV will feature 40 large OLED TVs installed in an array to display the Icelandic night sky on their perfectly black screens.

Residents of any country will have the opportunity to win tickets to the concert and an all-expenses-paid Reykjavik travel package. Competition details can be found at facebook.com/lgtv.

The campaign will also feature a photography exhibition displaying images of scenic Icelandic landscapes and night skies on LG OLED TVs. Captured by a number of talented Icelandic photographers, the images showing the natural beauty of the heavens and the Earth will be displayed in a whole new perspective on the perfect surfaces of LG OLED TVs. The photo exhibition will run from July 20 until November 20 in Harpa Concert Hall.

Throughout the campaign, LG worked closely with award-winning Icelandic writer and activist Andri Magnason as well as professional astro-photographer Sean Parker, who has created original works of art depicting the beautiful Aurora-filled night skies of Iceland. Popular tech YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy will serve as creative director for the campaign.

During the 2006 Aurora Borealis viewing season, Magnason suggested that the city of Reykjavik come together to make the beauty of the night sky visible within the city for the first time. Magnason wanted the people of Reykjavik to see the northern lights and stars against a completely black backdrop. Just as eliminating light pollution allowed the people of Reykjavik to see the lights in all their glory, the pitch black backdrop of OLED TVs heightens the contrast and delivers richer images. LG OLED TVs feature individually illuminated pixels, eliminating the need for image-distorting LED backlights. Without this backlight, OLED TVs are capable of displaying perfect black images alongside bright, lifelike colors.

“Some people tend to overlook the beauty of nature, especially those that grace the earth only once in a blue moon. With the unmatched OLED technology found in LG TVs, the residents and tourists of Iceland will be able to witness the magic of the Northern Lights this July,” LG Philippines’ Home Entertainment VP Tony An said. “After 50 years of TV innovation, LG makes world-class experiences possible with the perfect black and perfect colors of its OLED TV.”

The concert and photo exhibition will take place at the prestigious Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik. Tickets are available at tix.is/en/event/2973/lights-out-stars-on. ADP and Globe Telecom Co-host Philippines Joint Client Forum That Explores Ways to Ease Payroll Compliance with Integrated Systems

ROSELAND, N.J.– ADP® recently teamed with Globe Telecom, a leading Philippines full-service telecommunications company and ADP reseller, to help local payroll executives explore ways to manage the dynamic, technology-driven and global impacts of changing payroll compliance regulations in their region.

The joint forum, titled “Embracing the Change, Understanding the Opportunity," hosted more than 55 human resources and finance representatives from more than 15 diverse industries, such as property development, hospitality, airline and pharmaceutical, at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel in Manila, Philippines.  The group discussed how integrated human capital management solutions can address increasingly complex payroll administration challenges and emphasized the increasingly strategic role HR leaders are taking to help their companies succeed.

Charles Ferguson, division vice president for ADP Asia-Pacific, cited results from a recent ADP report, Key Considerations in Payroll Management:  The View from APAC, which show that compliance with payroll regulations is among the leading concerns of HR leaders in the Philippines.

“With 38 payroll legislative updates in 2015 alone, the Philippines is second only to India in the APAC region in its need to unify disparate internal systems and payroll vendors,” Ferguson said.  “As Asia businesses turn to technology to deliver a bright future across the region, advanced HR solutions can help them manage the rapid pace of change and deliver on the demand for quality employees.  At the same time, people have become one of the most sustainable competitive differentiators for APAC businesses.  HR’s role as the strategic manager of this valuable human capital asset has become absolutely crucial.”

The competitive stakes increase as HR leaders grapple with the complexity of managing compensation for diverse talent pools across geographies – and doing so in compliance with all necessary regulations, Ferguson explained.  Over the past five years, according to the ADP study, he said the average annual cost incurred from noncompliance penalities by APAC organizations was nearly $1.24 million (Php 56 million).

Use of tools such as spreadsheets, pens and paper – as well as the use of multiple, disparate payroll vendors – are two reasons why many APAC companies are unable to keep track of and comply with payroll laws, the study says.  APAC organizations that outsource their payroll systems use, on average, five vendors to manage various aspects of payroll, increasing the risk of noncompliance, the report says.

“Updating and consolidating payroll systems by implementing an integrated, multi-country solution can save time and money, and help companies stay compliant with country-specific laws,” Ferguson said.

ADP® Global Payroll Services are available in 111 countries and territories.  ADP has continuously expanded its global payroll footprint across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Americas, underscoring the company’s focus on bringing global clients the benefits of integrated payroll solutions from a provider they trust.

Key benefits of ADP’s Global Payroll Services include:
·         Optimized global payroll that combines secure, cloud-based technology and local in-country experts to deliver standardized processes, greater visibility into subsidiaries and reduced operational costs.

·         An integrated solution that offers a single, centralized web and mobile interface to drive primary payroll production tasks, run payroll reports, and help automate payroll legislation updates.

·         Reduced risk with trained experts on the ground, providing expertise on payroll compliance and local legislation.

·         Centralized analytics and reporting that offer clients overarching visibility and local control of the global payroll process.  Analytical tools yield an accurate overview of headcount, turnover and compensation data in addition to other payroll metrics.

OLED: Revolutionizing TV technology

Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is leading the change when it comes to revolutionary TV technology that brings the future of entertainment into the homes of today.

OLED TVs are fundamentally different from other TVs currently sold in the market, starting from the basic unit of images, known as pixels. Liquid crystal diode (LCD) technology—which powers most TVs, including those labeled as LED and UHD—use pixels that rely on LED backlighting. OLED uses organic material to produce self-lighting pixels, eliminating the need for backlights.

Less parts, slimmer profile
The difference between OLED and conventional LED TVs is clear, right from the first glance—LED is noticeably thicker, heavier and bulkier because of the layers of panels, plates, sheets and reflectors behind the screen. With OLED TVs, all that’s needed for breathtakingly realistic colors and details is a single panel. This translates to a blade-slim profile and ultra-light screen that takes TV design to the next level.

Perfection in every pixel
Picture quality on OLED TVs is miles away from conventional LEDs. Images can be viewed with the full range of the brightest and darkest hues, closely matching the human eye’s color perception.

The perfect, deepest blacks are delivered through OLED’s pixel-dimming capacity. The self-lighting pixels completely block light in dark images, eliminating the jarring backlight halo seen on LED TVs. OLED alone is capable of reaching 99% in the Digital Cinema Initiative color range and accuracy standard, as well as producing over a billion rich colors.

OLED’s near-perfect color accuracy has also caught the keen eye of veteran filmmakers, including Hollywood titans Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, The Martian) and Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now),

I think (OLED) is a game-changer,” said Scott in his opening address at the IFA 2015, Europe’s biggest tech show. “I’m happy to say that I would love to have all my films viewed on the revolutionary LG OLED TV.”

Larger-than-life sound
A great entertainment experience has two distinct elements: superior picture quality and realistic sound. Audio industry leader harman/kardon is paving the way for cinematic-quality sound in premium home entertainment lines, including LG’s OLED TV.
Smarter TV
OLED’s capacity for greater, clearer, and richer detail allows for an improved Smart TV GUI (graphical user interface). Home entertainment innovators like LG are creating next-generation UI that involves intuitive solutions to make access and browsing easy, without blocking a significant portion of the screen. The new LG webOS 3.0 makes great use of OLED possibilities, resulting to smarter features such as Multi-View and Magic Zoom.

Unparalleled dynamism
Realistic and more immersive viewing experiences are now possible, thanks to innovative picture formats like HDR 10 and Dolby Vision.

Dolby Vision is a revolutionary technology that optimizes images 24 times per second for frame-by-frame dynamism and an unparalleled cinematic HDR (high dynamic range) experience. Only LG OLED TVs support bothformats.

With the rest of the production industry moving exclusively toward Dolby Vision—including titans such as MGM, Disney, and Universal Studios—the world will soon embrace the technology developed by OLED pioneer LG for truly immersive home entertainment experiences.

Pitted against other products in the market, OLED technology—specifically the pioneering development from LG—caught the eye of the industry’s top publications
at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 in Las Vegas.

Wired included the LG OLED TV in its 2015 list of “10 Truly Awesome TVs,” while C|Net and Digital Trends rated it 9/10 and 9.5/10, respectively.
