Stoop Bagnet Ilocos | A Mouthwatering Ilocos Cuisine Experince

Stoop Bagnet Ilocos is now on Quezon City!!!
Located at : 53-1 A AL3 Bldg. Visayas Ave. Brgy. Vasra, Quezon City
Quezpn City, Philippines - Last April 26, I was invited for a treat from Stoop Bagnet Ilocos to taste their Bagnet special in their Quezon City area. I was very excited to taste what Stoop can offer in comparison to the different Bagnet house in the Philippines.
As i enter inside the place it very noticeable that the place is set up for a small number of people inside the room. The table and chair resembled a typical fastfood restaurant in the Philippines , although this kind of setup is what the Filipino love the most, intimate and quick-to-go.
What is special about this place is their condiments. Bagoong Ilocos (Boneless Bagoong Sauce) and Sukang Ilocos (Cane Vinegar) all natural/ no preservation will remind you of what it is like to be in Ilocos. If you want your taste-bud to experience the real taste of Ilocos with Bagnet together with their special sauce, i recommend you to try their food.
As a promo they are currently having a Buy 1 Take 1 promo for their silog meal

Another that you should try  is their Sizzling Bagnet for Php 180 only and Bagnet Bossing if one meal is not enough for you.

I tried their bagnet meal with KKB, you can choose from this following side dishes:  KBL( Kamatis, Bagoong, Lasuna), KKB ( Kamatis, Talbos ng Kamote, Bagoong), TBA (Talong, Bagoong, Alamang), Indulge yourself after with their Fruit Salad Icecream.
The inspiration of putting up Stoop Bagnet Ilocos, a restaurant serving authentic Ilocano cuisine stemmed from Jay Seneres’ acquired taste and craving for Ilocano food. He was then working for an airline company. Upon the invitation of his good friend and co-worker Galen Cid, they would spend vacation from work at Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Galen’s hometown. Galen’s mother would cook adobo Ilokano, Igado, dinengdeng and pinakbet from fresh meats and vegetables from them. Jay was introduces to bagoong with talbos ng kamote, kamatis and lasuna (native onions) – to empanada, sukang Ilokos, longanisa, atbp. And the most unforgettable of them all-the bagnet! Jay was hooked.

In Manila, Jay would search for restaurants serving Ilocano food – but found no good ones. Frustrated, he suggested to Galen, that they open an Ilocano restaurant. The two friends agreed that they just needed a good business plan, a good product packaging and a good presentation for the concept to materialize. Still keeping their airline jobs, they decide to go for it! They came up with the name “Stoop Bagnet Ilocos”. “Stoops” is actually a funny moniker they and their close friends call each other – coined word that means “buddy”.

Thus, in March 2008, the first Stoops Bagnet Ilocos fast food restaurant was opened along 1021 Pablo Ocampo St. (Vito Cruz) corner Arellano St. Malate, Manila. For two years the first Stoops branch gained a foothold serving  good tasting bagnet and other Ilocano dishes at affordable prices with fast and reliable service. Owing to a growing customer following, a second branch was opened in August of 2010, a third was opened in Legarda St. Sampaloc, Manila. For six years, the three branches have been in operation under Stoop Bagnet Ilocos Company, a partnership formed by the two founders.

In May 2014, Jay Seneres, realizing the good potential of the business decided to franchise the Stoop brand and concept. He formed a new company – SBI Franchise System Inc. to handle the franchise business of Stoop Bagnet Ilocos. The Corporation will manage all future expansion of the brand.

For more details and updates on current promos, you may visit their Website and like their Facebook Pages (Official and Visayas Branch). For those interested to franchise, you may call 4041376/09064040224 or email

Academy® Award winning director, Mike van Diem returns to the big screen with an off-beat, charming and romantic comedy, THE SURPRISE

Mike Van Diem won an Oscar for his debut feature film entitled “Character” back in 1997. This was in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 70th Academy Awards. And in that same year, “Character” was also presented in the “Critics Week” section of the 32nd Cannes Film Festival. Despite many offers from Hollywood, he decided to stay in the Netherlands to direct several commercials. THE SURPRISE will be his return to the big screen. Shot in Germany, Ireland, and Belgium, THE SURPRISE will feature three spoken languages: English, Dutch, and Hindi.

From winning an Academy Award for your debut film and taking so long to make a next one. Fear of failure?

No, not as far as I know. I got many offers from Hollywood. The first few years after winning the Academy Award I was asked to come to Los Angeles many times. Looking back on it, it’s not that surprising. You win an Academy Award because you’ve made a special, original and authentic film and Hollywood isn’t that interested in those films. It’s like receiving a Michelin Star and being asked to grill burgers.

I have been working on several projects for a short time and was hoping to make it more personal and push it to a higher level. In the end only the thriller SPY GAME could be seen on the big screen, after endless postponement and disagreement, but then I had already left. Meanwhile, I got several jobs in the Netherlands as a director of commercials. The financial need to make another feature film was missing and I started to lose interest in feature films. I hardly saw any films anymore, while I used to watch them all the time. That was a sign. Although the people around me told me I was obliged to my talent, I felt I had lost the spirit. It wasn’t easy to acknowledge that and it took some time before I was at peace with it. But ultimately, this resignation made the fire blaze again a couple of years ago. I thought: “I’m finally going to make THE SURRISE.”

In 1990 someone told me about the short story DE SURPRISE by Dutch writer Belcampo, about a man and a woman who both wish to leave this world. But when they meet, they fall in love and want to get out of the deal, which cannot be done so easily. The idea is: only when facing death, you live life to the fullest and everyone should live their life like it’s their last day on earth. I thought this was a strong, universal story that I, as a writer/director, could adapt and personalise. To make a long story short: THE SURPRISE would be my first feature film. But the timing was very unfortunate. Belcampo had just died and his heirs had too much on their mind to think about filming rights. I had just graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy and wasn’t that experienced. Due to mutual lack of decisiveness I didn’t got the filming rights. But when I contacted Belcampo’s daughter a few years ago, she recognised me immediately and was enthusiastic about making a film of Belcampo’s story.

After CHARACTER, you didn’t expect you to write and direct a romantic comedy, right?
Perhaps not in that order, but THE SURPRISE and CHARACTER have more in common than you might think. Not only thematically, but also when you look at the design: again quite grand, real cinema, while the story is again timeless and universal. Besides that, THE SURPRISE isn’t a dime a dozen, like other romantic comedies. The film is very entertaining and romantic, but doesn’t fit in your average romcom list.

Casting actor Jeroen van Koningsbrugge as the main character, who is ultimately funny but also dead serious, is quite remarkable. Why him?

While writing the script some aspects of Jeroen’s role reminded me of Peter Sellers in BEING THERE and Jim Carrey in THE TRUMAN SHOW. Not only the eccentricity of the character, but also the tragic loneliness combined with a very friendly, almost childlike openness. This was something Robin Williams could also play very well. I thought that perhaps I needed a comedian to play the lead instead of a ‘normal’ actor. I had seen Jeroen in the Dutch television show Draadstaal where he had played some moving scenes with the exact childlike innocence I was looking for. He became my one and only choice. Without him I wouldn’t have made the film. Luckily he was very enthusiastic and also accepted my only demand: he needed to lose at least twelve and a half kilo’s. In the end he managed to lose seventeen. He was extremely disciplined.

Why did he need to lose so many kilo’s?

I mainly knew Jeroen from Draadstaal, but I realised that most people in the Netherlands knew him from Ik hou van Holland, a big Dutch TV show airing on Saturday night. In this program he is mostly a sociable and Burgundian guy who keeps the party alive. That image contradicted with his credibility as Jacob in THE SURPRISE. Of course, Jeroen is a very skilled actor and will make you forget about this other image instantly, but losing the weight combined with his clothing and the international setting gave him some extra support.

How did you cast Georgina Verbaan?
That wasn’t so hard. There are very few good female comedians in the Netherlands and even less that could play a female lead. For the role of Anne we only invited a handful of actresses. We did some screen tests and raised the bar higher and higher every time. In the end, Georgina was the overall winner and I’m sure that none of the other actresses envy her for this victory. When you watch the film it seems like this role has been written especially for her. One day before the principal shooting of THE SURPRISE, Dutch comedian Claudia de Breij praised Georgina’s acting skills in the Dutch television show De Wereld Draait Door and said that Georgina deserved a great project where she could use all of her talents. THE SURPRISE could be that project. And now I have finished the film, I’m absolutely sure of it. Georgina plays a lovely, versatile role and has excellent chemistry with Jeroen.

And Jan Decleir?

Jan, who played the lead in CHARATER, wasn’t supposed to be in THE SURPRISE. Jeroen plays a multimillionaire with an enormous estate and initially I had written the part of a butler in the story, the only person Jacob could talk to. I started casting but couldn’t find an actor with the charisma to make the role of the butler work. Jan has the charisma, but isn’t the butler type of guy. So I rewrote the part of the butler and made him a gardener, which suited Jan better. Jan and Jeroen immediately connected during the first read of the script and their chemistry is visible on screen. Jan also connected so well with Georgina. Jan really enjoyed making this film and we surely enjoyed working with him.

Back to the beginning: if you hadn’t won an Academy Award, would you have made more films?

Who knows? Perhaps for financial reasons, if my job as a director of commercials hadn’t gone so well. But economic necessity isn’t a strong motive for making a good film. I have learned a lot in the meantime and lived rather happily.

So, no regrets about winning the Academy Award?

Ask an ice skater if he regrets winning a medal and he will say no. It’s an amazing experience that I can recommend to everyone. You might think that every advance has its disadvantage, but I wouldn’t say that. Except everyone keeps nagging about when you’re going to make your next film. But that’s a prize I’m willing to pay.

The next smartphone superstar finally arrives with groundbreaking technology

Multi-awarded LG G5 and Friends “play” their way to the Philippines

MANILA – The Mobile World Congress was blown away last February 2016 when LG Electronics first unveiled the playful LG G5 and Friends, the latest addition to the global technology innovator’s renowned G Series. This breakthrough innovation bagged a record-breaking number of 33 awards at what is known to be the mobile industry’s ‘Oscars’.

Two months later, the celebrated smartphone found its way to the Philippines, making its debut in a grand launch in Shangri-La at the Fort.

Play More with LG G5
The prestigious event was graced by a number of prominent personalities such as Phil and James Younghusband, Ginger Conejero and more. Throughout the program, LG G5 and Friends were given ample praise by different industry experts: Qualcomm Southeast Asia Regional Head Mantosh Malhotra for the G5’s power-packed hardware, music DJ Jessica Milner for the Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play sound accessory, and lifestyle-travel blogger Chuckie Dreyfus for the 360 CAM accessory.

Celebrity parents Doug and Cheska Kramer showed the audience why they love the LG G5 and Friends through their Rolling Bot video demonstration with their kids and pet dog. And to reinforce G5’s message “Life’s Good When You Play More”, comedic video blogger Wil Dasovich presented his collaboration with LG through a heart-warming CSR project conducted for the children at the Philippine Children Medical Center (PCMC).

Unique Modular Design and Industry-Leading Camera
LG G5 sports the brand’s first-ever Modular Type design, encased in a sleek metal aluminum body and a Slide-out Battery which can easily swap a depleted battery with a fully charged one. Complete with LG Friends, a collection of companion devices, the G5 can be transformed into a digital camera, Hi-Fi player and more.

Reflecting LG’s longstanding reputation as a leader in smartphone cameras, the LG G5 has two cameras on the rear: one with a standard 78-degree lens and another with a 135-degree wide angle lens, the widest available in any smartphone. The 135-degree lens on the LG G5 offers a viewing angle that is approximately 1.7 times wider than those of existing smartphone cameras and 15 degrees wider than the human eye’s field of view. The wide angle lens makes it easier for users to capture more landscape, taller buildings or larger groups without having to position oneself further from the subject.

LG G5’s unmatched camera qualities are further enhanced with powerful photo effects including Pop-out Picture, Film Effect and Auto Shot. Pop-out Picture combines images taken by the standard and wide angle lens to create a picture-in-a-frame effect. Film Effect can apply nine different film emulators to an image while Auto Shot is an enhanced camera UX which automatically captures the perfectselfie shot when a face is recognized.

LG Friends
With the G5, LG is introducing a paradigm-shifting smartphone ecosystem—the LG Playground. This comes with a wide range of companion devices, aptly called LG Friends, to deliver fun while providing a new mobile experience far beyond traditional smartphone boundaries.

·        LG CAM Plus – This is a versatile camera module that can be attached through the battery slot to deliver a comfortable grip and convenient control of a standalone camera. It also offers intuitive auto focus and exposure lock, features usually found in standalone digital cameras. When attached to the LG G5, it provides an additional battery capacity of 1,200mAh to allow for longer shooting enjoyment.

·        LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY – This is an innovative portable Hi-Fi DAC audio player developed in collaboration with B&O PLAY to meet the needs of those who enjoy top-notch sounds that are traditionally available in high-end audio devices. LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY stands out for its simple yet elegant Scandinavian design and premium sound technology. In addition to the 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC up-sampling technology first introduced in the LG V10, it also supports 32-bit 384KHz high-definition audio playback. It can be used either as a module with the LG G5 or as a separate Hi-Fi DAC by connecting to any smartphone or PC.

It has a stylish and foldable design so that users can easily carry and watch VR content anytime, anywhere. Unlike other VR devices that require smartphones to be inserted in the device, the LG 360 VR weighs only 134g and is less than half as heavy as competing VR goggles while delivering a resolution of 639 ppi. The device is compatible with 360-degree images and videos captured with LG 360 CAM as well as all Google Cardboard content.

·        LG 360 CAM – This is a compact 360-degree angle camera equipped with two 13-megapixel 200-degree wide angle cameras, 1,200mAh battery and 4GB internal memory, which can be supplemented by a microSD card. It can easily connect to the LG G5 and provides 2K video and 5.1 surround channel recording on three microphones, letting users effortlessly create high-quality 360-degree contents. The images will also be available to view on the LG 360 VR or other devices that are capable of 360-degree content.

LG G5 offers other innovations designed to revolutionize today’s mobile lifestyle:

·        Always-on Display – The 5.3-inch Quad HD IPS Quantum display on the LG G5 offers an Always-on feature, the first on a main smartphone display. The concept of the Always-on Display was first introduced in the LG V10 as the Second Screen and now that feature has evolved on to the main display to show the time and date continuously even when the G5 is in sleep mode. This means that you can always see the time at a glance, even during important meetings or when your hands are full.

·        Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 Processor – The LG G5 is equipped with the powerful yet energy-efficient SnapdragonTM 820 processor which offers advanced features such as 64-bit performance, Adreno 530 graphics, lower-power Qualcomm® HexagonTMDSP and Qualcomm Spectra™ 14-bit dual image signal processors (ISPs) designed to deliver high resolution DSLR-quality images and additional power savings. The Snapdragon 820 processor also has an integrated X12 LTE modem that supports Category 12 download speeds of up to 600 Mbps and LTE Category 13 uplink speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

·        aptX™ HD: 24-bit Hi-Fi Wireless Audio – The LG G5 is equipped with aptX HD, an enhanced codec that supports 24-bit sound over Bluetooth, delivering rich and clear sound over wireless connections without any loss. When paired with the LG TONE Platinum, users can experience superb quality Hi-Fi audio that sounds amazingly close to the original source.

·        Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0 – The LG G5 offers Quick Charge 3.0 for incredibly fast charging. By employing an intelligent algorithm, Quick Charge 3.0 is 27 percent faster and 45 percent more efficient than the previous generation.

“With all the smartphone brands striving for the latest technology and most functional design, LG G5 marries these concepts with the human element of rediscovering the true joy in ‘playing more’,” LGEPH Mobile Communications VP Jay Won said. “We are so excited to bring this highly anticipated and out-of-the-box flagship to the Philippines.
