Launching of "Bloom in STEM" and Celebrating Ada Lovelace 200th birth anniversary

Manila, Philippines – Last November 10 at the Microsoft Philippines office, the launching of Bloom in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the 200th birth anniversary of Ada Lovelace takes place. Who is Ada Lovelace? She is a British mathematician and a computer visionary, she is well known as “the first world computer programmer” and she is a woman.

The whole program was focused on empowering and encouraging women to participate in contribution to works & ideas in the STEM field. In addition, because of the stereotypical misconception that girls are not interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, the whole world are surely loosing some great talent. Who knows what will happen, if we eliminate the limiting factors that hinders the growth of a young individual (especially for girls). BloomTV invited four speakers, who already have a great contribution in the field of STEM.

Her STEM journey started in UST specifically when she starts doing things that requires a physical action, adding to the factor that during that time female student in UST is required to wear a  “palda”. However, because she overcome that hardship, she is now working as a Developer Relations Manager in Globe Labs.

·         Shaina Tantuico, Co-Founder, and Executive Director of JeepNeed, refers to herself as a reverse balik-bayan because her family was already migrated to a different nation. However, for some reasons she return back in the Philippines. She is now working as the Math and Science content expert in APEC. She tell us a story about one of their projects in Sarangani in how they innovate a simple ruler stick that helps fisherman in the area to easily identify through the length of the fish if its healthy or not. The fish ruler & the mini microscope is available online at www.jeepneed.com for a very affordable price.
